The presence of excess or unwanted hair can be a big and embarrassing problem for any woman. This is probably why many women are willing to subject themselves to painful hair removal procedures like waxing, threading, epilating and shaving, on a regular basis. Apart from the pain or discomfort involved, some of these procedures could be quite expensive too.

Therefore, laser hair removal treatments have become increasingly popular, in the recent times, mainly because the treatment is comparatively less painful and has an effect that is believed to last longer. In a laser hair removal treatment, a powerful beam of light (called the laser) is passed through an individual’s skin. This beam is directed right to the hair follicle, with the intention of damaging it, so that it does not grow any hair in the future. This procedure may require multiple sessions for maximum and long-lasting effectiveness. However, the laser treatment does not guarantee 100% percent results. Another procedure that is believed to be effective and is also FDA approved, is electrolysis hair removal. In an electrolysis hair removal treatment, a fine metal probe or needle-shaped electrode is used, to apply an electric current to every hair follicle, so that the roots are destroyed. Electrolysis also requires multiple sessions for maximum effectiveness. However, there is no guarantee that this procedure will always work in removing the hair completely.

Hair removal treatments like waxing, shaving and so on could be easily done from home. However, in recent times now, a few companies have come up with home laser hair removal treatments, for the added convenience of the people. There are a couple of devices that have been introduced recently, which removed unwanted hair, without setting up an appointment at a clinic or consulting a physician. However, while the results of professionally administered laser hair removal treatments have proven to be long-lasting and effective, laser hair removal at home can have results that vary. Moreover, laser treatment administered by a professional may be considered safer than home laser hair removal devices.

Many people wonder which hair removal treatment is more effective and has more advantages – electrolysis or laser hair removal treatments? There are several factors that need to be taken into consideration, as both the treatments have their own benefits and disadvantages. While electrolysis may be more reasonable as compared to laser treatments, the pain involved in electrolysis is believed to be greater. Moreover, while laser treatments may require anywhere between 4 to 8 sessions, electrolysis usually requires about 15 – 30 sessions. Therefore, while some people prefer electrolysis, others may find laser treatments more effective.
