Pregnancy Hair Care
Pregnancy brings the joy of motherhood to a woman. It also brings lots of other psychological and physical changes in a woman’s body. There are also changes related to a woman’s hair. Some women may experience a good hair growth but some may suffer hair loss. Most women suffer hair loss during pregnancy. Hormonal changes during pregnancy also affect the structure of your hair. Increased amount of estrogen during or after pregnancy causes fast and thick growing hair. Some women also experience dry scalp. During pregnancy some women may also develop some extra hair on their chin, upper lip, cheeks, arms and legs. Some women may notice one or two new hairs on their breasts, belly and back.
Changes in hormones during pregnancy often cause hair to fall out. Hair loss during pregnancy varies from woman to woman i.e. it may be more in one woman and less in another woman Hair loss varies from pregnancy to pregnancy, even with one woman. Women may experience hair loss even after pregnancy; this is common and women need not panic. Hair loss during pregnancy and after pregnancy is due surges of hormones. Women need not be embarrassed about it. Hair loss during and after pregnancy is temporary as it caused due to hormonal imbalances.
There may be some other reasons for hair loss during and after pregnancy; you must consult your doctor if you suspect some cause other than hormonal imbalance. Hair growth returns to its normal cycle within six month of pregnancy.
To have a healthier head of hair during pregnancy and after delivery:
- Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. They protect shafts and encourage hair growth.
- Avoid fine-tooth and harsh combs. Be gentle with your hair.
- Using blow dryers and other heated hair instruments cause ham to your hair; avoid using them.
